Exploring Event Technology Innovation at EventTech

Technology is changing the way we tell stories and disrupting the way we experience the world. At VISION, we are fearless in pursuing innovation that results in great creative and effective audience engagement strategies. It’s this pursuit that led our President and CEO, Tracey Shappro, to EventTech, a conference focused on optimizing live events using technology. There, she explored the latest experiential technology innovations and reflected on the impact they will have on live event production.

Dynamic ‘Decor’tainment

For a while now, VISION has been utilizing projection mapping to elevate event experiences. We’ve used projection mapping to add wonderment to objects both large and small. This includes projecting content on the side of the buildings, the interior walls and cakes. So it came as no surprise that it was a hot topic at this year’s EventTech. Projection in all forms is being used to not only transform full event spaces into immersive experiences, but with the use of dynamic projection mapping, it is transforming moving objects as well.

Virtual Reality is Breaking Free

Another technology VISION has been utilizing for client marketing and training needs is virtual reality. EventTech showed how advances in VR are creating more multi-user experiences versus the singular nature of virtual reality now. For instance at new VR Venues, like Oculus Venues, VR will soon be breaking out of the headsets to allow multiple users to interact with one another. These virtual reality venues will enable users to experience live events with others in a shared virtual environment—allowing thousands of people to experience live events together.

"Oculus Venues are going to revolutionize multi-user VR experiences" - Jeff Nicholas, VP Creative of Live Nation (VR + AR: The Next Chapter of Interactive Experiences)

Immersive technology is not only breaking free of the restrictions of the headset but also the confines of its ‘auditory and visual-only experience’ restrictions. Virtual reality is beginning to become full sensory experiences with the addition of smell, touch, and taste. Budweiser’s Beer Garage, which debuted at SXSW, is just one example of how this is being executed by businesses.

Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality and Beyond

Virtual reality might get the most attention now, but augmented reality is rapidly picking up steam. AR is quickly becoming a part of the day-to-day lives of consumers—and a great tool for event marketers. Augmented reality is going to impact how businesses market their products and services. It’s exciting to see the growth of AR and how it will affect all of us. Mixed reality too.

New solutions, innovations and immersive experiences are appearing at a rapid-fire pace, and VISION’s heartbeat contributes to the pulse of these changes as we continue to incorporate the latest innovations into our projects. We create experiences that live ON for our clients and technology is an incredibly powerful tool to do just that.
