Super Bowl 51: It’s Only The Beginning
Super Bowl 51: It’s Only The Beginning
Houston is alive.
It wasn’t because of an event that happened and ended and then we moved on. Houston is alive because of what we saw the city accomplish. It was a unique moment to show those watching who we are: innovative, compassionate and compelling. And with Super Bowl 51 now locked in history, Houston’s the better off for it—with plenty of infrastructure innovations that are here to stay, including an improved Discovery Green, a revamped convention center and added bars, restaurants and residential developments.
We know that Houston will continue to thrive as the vital economic hub that it is. One of our favorite parts of the Super Bowl’s impact was mentioned by Bob Harvey, the President of the Greater Houston Partnership: “Most everything we did to get ready for the Super Bowl is something that would be a permanent improvement for the city.”
And most everything Houston brought to the table was memorable. As a company that specializes in experiences and video production, we were especially excited about the ways our city was able to supply us with Super Bowl stories that we’ll be telling for years. From NASA’s virtual reality experience that plunged your heart down (or up) to the surface of Mars, to the levitating drones that injected technical flair into Lady Gaga’s halftime show, Houston went above our expectations to deliver a sporting event worthy of the world’s view.
We loved being a facet of Houston’s creativity for the Super Bowl. VISION’s role was varied—plugged into the mix from the beginning. Working with the Super Bowl Host Committee, we helped to recruit over 10,000 volunteers for the Super Bowl. Then we created a three-hour content-rich live event to help kickoff the Super Bowl 51 experience in Houston for our city’s SuperStar volunteers.
As a creative digital agency, we contributed to a #TeamHouston campaign to show the intricacies and beauty of Houston with the Greater Houston Partnership, we were able to create content that told stories: from the nation’s largest medical center to the unique faces seen in the diversity of Houston. It’ll nudge visitors to our city to stay. After all, it did garner over 4 million social media impressions.
We worked with the NFL’s Pro Football Hall of Fame to produce content for their Merlin Olsen Luncheon, where we brushed up against legends like Earl Campbell and Jim Brown. We created product video imagery for Partnership Tower as it welcomed in visitors, dignitaries and Houstonians into the beautiful space. And for what may be our most exciting project that week, we worked with Pope Francis, the NFL and the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee to edit and produce the Pope’s message of hope to the world during the Super Bowl.
We’re grateful to be a part of such a historic event. Knowing what our city could be from the beginning, it’s been only joy to see its evolution. As a champion for this city, we’re already looking forward to the day when Houston steps onto the global stage once again.
The Super Bowl’s festivities may be over, but the pride we have for our city continues to live ON.
