Why Storytelling and Virtual Reality Are the Perfect Fit

Virtual reality is not a fantasy anymore! It’s a way to create content that resonates with an audience. At VISION, we are exploring how we can use this tech to better communicate our clients’ stories.

By now, we all know the importance of storytelling. It’s been around practically since the dawn of man, and like man, the way we tell stories has evolved. Originally told through cave paintings, storytelling methods have expanded to include verbal, written and digital forms. And as technology advances towards more immersive experiences like virtual reality (VR), storytelling follows suit.

The Essence of Storytelling

Although the method of storytelling has drastically changed over the years, the basis of a good story has remained unaffected. Storytelling is all about transporting its audience into another life. But the quality of the story lies in our ability to empathize with the characters.

"Empathy doesn't just drive a good story, it is storytelling."

Empathy, by definition, is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Before the advent of VR, storytelling depended on the audiences’ imaginations to relate to characters that they watched from afar. However, with VR, you don’t have to imagine what it feels like to be a different person, visit a different place, or have a different adventure—you can virtually experience first-hand. And what better way to empathize with someone than to share their experiences through their eyes?

That’s why VISION is exploring different ways to utilize virtual reality to give audiences deeper perspectives into our clients’ stories. By allowing us to immerse others in our experiences, VR gives us a greater ability to truly change perceptions. No matter the purpose, be it journalism, entertainment or marketing, virtual reality has the potential to create experiences that live ON.

Bringing Your Vision to Virtual Reality

At VISION, we are already seeing the potential virtual reality has to tell a variety of stories for a variety of purposes. For instance, VISION’s client, HTX Labs, is using virtual reality as a training tool to prepare people for real crisis situations.

We are always exploring more ways to incorporate virtual reality into storytelling. Even as these words are being typed, the team is applying their vast knowledge of virtual reality video production to current projects. So, stay tuned to see more ways VISION is utilizing this new storytelling medium.
